Breast Lift / Lift with Augmentation

Conveniently located to serve Atlanta and Sandy Springs

A breast lift with augmentation, also known as an augmentation mastopexy, is a combination procedure that pairs mastopexy surgery with a breast augmentation. This provides more comprehensive breast enhancement for our Atlanta patients, improving volume, projection, perkiness, and symmetry.

While a breast augmentation alone can be an excellent aesthetic option, the addition of a breast implant adds weight to the breast. If enough weight is added, this can result in increased sagging. Pairing a breast augmentation with a breast lift compensates for the additional sag caused by the implant, ensuring perkiness.

A breast lift with augmentation (also called a breast lift with implants) can be performed using saline, silicone, or gummy bear breast implants. The ideal implant for each patient will depend on their needs and goals and will be discussed during a consultation at Monarch. Our facility isn’t far from downtown Atlanta, home to attractions like the iconic Sundial Restaurant, The Curb Market, SkyView Atlanta, Centennial Olympic Park, and the Georgia Aquarium.

Questions & Answers

Can Augmentation Mastopexy Include a Fat Transfer Instead of Breast Implants? +

If preferred, patients can avoid breast implants and instead pair their breast lift with fat transfer to the breasts. This allows for a breast volume increase of 200cc to 500cc, or a half to a full cup size. Patients who are worried about implant-related complications often select this implant-free option.

This process involves first removing excess fatty tissue from an area like the abdomen or thighs. Patients interested in this option must have excess fat available for transfer. Once the fat has been removed via gentle liposuction, it is purified. Dead and damaged fat cells are removed, as are other unnecessary materials.

Next, the breast lift is performed, and then the purified fat is carefully injected into the breasts, increasing breast volume.

Including a Breast Lift with Augmentation in a Mommy Makeover +

Many patients choose to include augmentation mastopexy in their mommy makeover. A mommy makeover is the term for a combination of procedures designed to return the body to its pre-pregnancy appearance. It is performed to address aesthetic issues caused by pregnancy, childbirth, and breastfeeding. A mommy makeover is usually performed during a single surgical session.

Pregnancy causes the breasts to swell in size. In many cases, breastfeeding can cause the breasts to sag, to lose volume and shape, and to develop size and shape asymmetries. Including augmentation mastopexy in a mommy makeover can restore or enhance the breasts’ appearance.

Liposuction and abdominoplasty are examples of other procedures that are typically included in a mommy makeover. These address excess fat, sagging abdominal muscles (diastasis recti), and drooping abdominal skin after pregnancy and childbirth.

Good Candidates for a Breast Lift with Augmentation +

If you are interested in increasing your breast volume, projection, and perkiness while reducing breast sag, you may be a good candidate for augmentation mastopexy surgery.

Women who have given birth and breastfed are often ideal candidates for this combination procedure, since these life events can result in volume loss and drooping. Women who are lacking in upper-pole fullness are especially good candidates for this procedure.

Non-smokers are ideal candidates for a breast lift with implants. The skin health of smokers is lower than that of non-smokers, and this can result in an increased likelihood of surgical complications and a prolonged healing process. Because of this, smokers must quit smoking at least two weeks before their augmentation mastopexy.

Patients who are in good overall health and have realistic expectations are the best candidates for a breast lift with implants. Patients who are currently pregnant or breastfeeding are recommended to wait on this procedure until they have given birth and completely finished the breastfeeding process.

The Breast Lift with Augmentation Consultation: What to Expect +

Your breast lift with implants consultation will take place at Monarch Plastic Surgery and Skin Renewal Center. We’re not far from the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta Airport and several upscale hotels, such as the Crowne Plaza Hotel Atlanta Perimeter at Ravinia, the Sheraton Atlanta Perimeter North Hotel, and Hyatt Place Perimeter Center.

At the start of your consultation, a surgeon’s assistant will meet with you to discuss your aesthetic needs and goals. They will ask you about your medical history, going over past procedures and treatments, allergies, and current medications and supplements. They will tell you about your breast procedure options to ensure that you are as informed as possible before meeting with the surgeon.

You will then meet with either Dr. Kavali or Dr. Moak for a personalized breast lift with augmentation consultation. The two of you will discuss your breast enhancement expectations, and your surgeon will perform a physical examination. Remember to bring photographs of your ideal breasts, since these will help to convey your aesthetic goals for the procedure.

If your surgeon determines that you are a safe candidate for the procedure, she will work with you to choose your ideal breast implants and create a surgical plan. Questions are encouraged at any time.

How to Prepare for a Breast Lift with Augmentation +

When it comes to a breast lift with augmentation, preparation is key. Following your surgeon’s preparation directions closely will help to minimize the chance of complications and ensure that your recovery process will be as comfortable as possible.

You’ll need to avoid taking non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and herbal supplements for at least two weeks before your augmentation mastopexy surgery. This will help to reduce the likelihood of exacerbated bleeding during and after the procedure.

It will also be important to avoid alcohol before undergoing this breast procedure. Alcohol thins the blood, which in turn increases the likelihood of bruising after the surgery.

Remember to arrange for one to two weeks off from work in advance and to clear your social calendar for recovery. Prepare your recovery area well before the date of the operation. This means gathering prescribed medications, snacks, towels, water bottles, entertainment, ice packs, pillows, and blankets to make it as comfortable as possible.

The night before your surgery, you must avoid eating or drinking after midnight in order to prevent anesthesia complications.

The Breast Lift with Augmentation Procedure +

A breast lift with augmentation usually takes around two to three hours to perform. It is conducted under general anesthesia, which prevents pain and discomfort for the duration of the surgery.

When performing a breast lift with augmentation, plastic surgeons typically perform the augmentation first, followed by the lift. Once the anesthesia takes effect, the plastic surgeon creates a breast-lift incision suitable for the amount of tissue being removed.

After this, they create tissue pockets in the chest, into which they carefully place the chosen breast implants. Next, they remove the excess breast skin and tighten and reshape the underlying tissues and the remaining breast skin. The surgeon may also reposition and/or resize the nipples and areolae.

Finally, the surgeon closes the incisions using stitches and then uses bandages to wrap the breasts. Tiny plastic tubes called drains are also inserted into the incisions. Drains assist in carrying excess blood and fluid out of the body, reducing the likelihood of seroma and hematoma formation.

The Recovery Process After a Breast Lift with Augmentation +

One of the primary benefits of a breast lift with augmentation is the need for only one recovery period. Pairing mastopexy and mammoplasty in a single session helps patients avoid the discomfort and downtime of separate recovery processes.

Once the patient’s breast lift with augmentation is complete, they will be moved to a recovery area for monitoring. They will then be discharged. They will not be able to drive, so they will need a ride home from a friend or a family member. Assistance around the home will be required at the start of the recovery period.

During the recovery process after a breast lift with augmentation, patients are highly encouraged to follow our surgeons’ recovery directions closely. Failing to do so could prolong the healing process, negatively affect the results of the surgery, and increase the risk of post-surgical complications like bruising and bleeding.

Patients will experience soreness, swelling, and bruising in the chest tissues after their augmentation mastopexy. These issues will fade over time. To address post-surgical swelling and bruising, patients are encouraged to apply ice packs to the area as directed.

Pain medication will be prescribed to help with any post-surgical pain or soreness. Antibiotics will also be prescribed to prevent infections. These medications should be taken as directed.

For several weeks, patients will need to wear a surgical bra or another soft, supportive bra without underwire. This will ensure that the healing breasts are properly supported and protected from damage. It will also decrease swelling and keep the breast implants in their proper position during the healing process.

Patients must sleep upright or at an angle for the first three weeks after their augmentation mastopexy. Sleeping on one’s stomach or side can put pressure on the breasts while the tissues are weakened. Pillows behind the back and under the arms provide additional support and reduce strain.

Bathing and showering must be avoided for two to three days in order to keep incisions and dressings dry. All incisions must be fully healed before swimming or tanning, and heavy sun exposure should be avoided.

Patients can resume everyday activities starting around one week after their procedure. They can return to work after around one to two weeks, depending on the degree of physical activity required. Patients must avoid physically strenuous activities like sports, exercise, heavy lifting, and raising their arms above their head for several weeks after the surgery. This helps keep the incisions safe from trauma while they are healing.

Patients must make sure to attend all follow-up appointments with their surgeon. During follow-ups at our facility, located near the LEGO Discovery Center and the World of Coca-Cola, surgical sutures and drains are removed. The surgeon checks on the augmentation mastopexy incisions to ensure that they are healing properly. She also addresses any complications and clears patients to resume various activities.

Final results will not be fully evident until all swelling and bruising has ameliorated. Implants must also settle, which can take time. Gentle massage of the breasts can aid in this process.

The Cost of a Breast Lift with Augmentation +

At Monarch Plastic Surgery and Skin Renewal Center, not far from the Atlanta Contemporary Art Center, the ZuCot Gallery, and the MET Atlanta, the price of a breast lift with augmentation is dependent on several factors. The factors that can impact overall cost include total surgical time, the price of the chosen breast implants, the specific techniques utilized, and anesthesia fees.

It’s important to remember that a breast lift with augmentation is more cost-effective than getting a breast lift and a breast augmentation procedure performed during two separate surgical sessions. Each session would come with its own associated operating room costs, increasing the total price.

If you would like assistance paying for the cost of your augmentation mastopexy surgery, we have partnered with CareCredit and Alphaeon Credit to provide financing options. These financing companies offer a number of convenient payment plans tailored to suit the needs of patients from all walks of life.
