Botox

Botox Cosmetic by Allergan is an FDA approved neurotoxin that helps to reduce the appearance of wrinkles between the eyebrows, forehead lines, frown lines, and the fine lines next to the eyes also known as “crow’s feet”. The neurotoxin blocks nerve signals responsible for the contraction of certain facial muscles that cause the appearance of these wrinkles. In addition to treating stubborn lines, Botox can be used for a “lip flip”, where we inject a few units in the upper lip to creates a subtle lift. It can also be injected above the brows which helps lift and improve the overall shape and arch of your brows.

Botox can also be used to treat a variety of non-cosmetic areas, including chronic migraines, teeth grinding, and excessive sweating in the palms and underarms, also known as “hyperhidrosis”.

Questions & Answers

How soon should I start Botox? +

Botox can be used as a “preventative” measure against certain visible signs of aging. If you start treatments as soon as you notice the formation of subtle expression lines on your face, the effects of BOTOX may be able to help you delay new wrinkles from forming.

We recommend coming in for a consultation with one of our skilled injectors to ensure you are a candidate for Botox.

How should I prepare for my Botox treatment? +

Once you’ve had your consultation to ensure you are a good candidate for Botox, you can prepare for your treatment by avoiding the consumption of alcohol and using anti-inflammatory medications in the days before treatment as this can increase your risk of bruising.

How long does it take to see the effects of Botox, and how long does it last? +

Botox takes about 10-14 days to fully settle in although some results are visible sooner and it lasts around three months, but results can vary from patient to patient.

What is the recovery following a Botox treatment? +

There is minimal to no down-time after a Botox treatment. You may experience redness, itching and some swelling at the injection sites, but this typically lasts only 24-48 hours.

After your treatment, you will want to avoid exercise for at least 24 hours, lying flat for 4-6 hours after your treatment, and refrain from massaging or touching your injection sites as this may cause the Botox to migrate and effect your overall results.
